Saint Cecilia Window
The Saint Cecilia window in the former choir loft, now the rector's office.
In the centre is Saint Cecilia, patron saint of music and musicians. On the left is King David, who was reputed to have been a great musician himself and (although modern critical scholarship has disproved the notion) was said to have authored the Psalms. On the right is Miriam, sister of Moses and Aaron, who, after the crossing of the Red Sea, “took timbril in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrals and dancing. And Miriam sang to them: ‘Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously / the horse and his rider he had thrown into the sea’” (Exodus 15:20-21). All are surrounded by music making angels and other musical attributes.
